Goose and Duck Hunting

We offer a variety of waterfowl hunting trips, and combo trips with fly fishing.  Choose from Guiding only trips, or packages including guiding, accommodation, meals, shells, licences, and bird processing.  All packages can be enhanced by adding an upgrade to luxury accommodation, shells, bird processing, shotguns and licences.

We generally only hunt fields for both geese and ducks out of Final Approach Pro Guide XL laydown blinds.  Mornings find us hunting huge Alberta Honkers exclusively over Dave Smith Decoys.  Once limits are reached, we pack up, take pictures, and head out for a late breakfast or an early lunch.  After we eat, there is usually time to head back to the hotel for a nap.  Late in the day we head out to field hunt ducks over a variety of motion decoys and GHG fully flocked duck decoys.  Once and a while we pull out the duck boats for a truly unique experience shooting on the water.  Whenever possible we try to shoot drake limits to make the hunt more interesting and fun!

Our spread consists of 400 Dave Smith Goose Decoys, a dozen Mojos, 200 GHG Duck Decoys, and Final Approach Pro Guide XL bllinds.

Packages

All packages include hunting in pre-scouted fields with our professional guides who will take care of setting the decoys, calling, flagging, and running the dogs.
Package #1 - Guiding only (3-day hunt is $1200/person, 1-day hunt is $400/person)
Package #2 - Guiding, Accommodation, Meals, Non Alchoholic Beverages. (3-day hunt is $2000/person)
Package #3 - Guiding, Accommodation, Meals, Non Alchoholic Beverages, Hevi-Metal Shot, Bird Processing, and Licences. (3-day hunt is $2500/person)

We generally offer these packages in 1-Day, 3-Day, or 6-Day hunts, but can tailor a package for you for any combination of days. Call and let us know what length of trip you would like.  Meals are served at a great restaurant in town, the food and service is EXCELLENT!

Cast and Blast #1 - If you would like to add in a day of fly fishing in the middle or on either end of your hunting trip, you can find all the information you need at www.bowriverflyfishing.com. (Full day trips are $550/boat, half day trips are $425/boat.  Each boat can accomodate 1 or 2 people).  Sometimes in early season, we can do a half day fishing trip in between the morning and evening hunt.
Cast and Blast #2 - Starting November 1st we can hunt while we float down the river and can combine fly fishing and hunting.  Prices vary depending on number of hunters.  This is a weather dependant trip.  Contact us for details.

Upgrades

Accommodaiton is based on Double Occupancy - Single Occupancy is available for an additional charge.
Upgrade to Luxury Accommodation - $70 per day per person.
Upgrade to Hevi-shot for $15 per box.
Bird Processing is available for $6 per duck and $8 per goose. Birds must be processed by you or by us daily.
Shells are available at the market price of $35 per box of Hevimetal (25 per box), or $35 per box of Hevishot (10 per box).
Benelli Super Black Eagle IIs are available for $75 per day.

Logistics

50% deposit is due at time of booking to reserve your trip. Balance is due August 1st.  Price is the same regardless of age.

Gratuities are not included.  Gratuities should be based on how hard your guides and scouts worked to give you the best trip possible. The hunting in Alberta is usually great, however this is hunting, and the birds are wild.  The scouts spend days on the front end of your trip searching for birds, and continue scouting and spotting fields during your trip.  The guide(s) work hard during your hunt to bring as many birds as possible, as close as possible.  Sometimes due to a full moon, lack of weather, frost, high winds, etc... the hunting doesn't go as planned, this is out of control of the guides and scouts.  Please base your tip on the guides performance, not how the birds cooperated. Gratuities are usually between 10% and 20% of the cost of your trip to thank the guides and scouts for a job well done.

Once you book, we will forward you the hunt package, and all of the needed forms such as the ones below.   If you book a package that includes accommodation, the number of nights of accomodation equals the number of days of your hunt.  If you'd like extra days, let us know, and we'll see that they are booked for you.

If you are bringing your own firearms and ammunition, visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Website for information.  The most common form will be Form CAFC 909, and if you are importing more than 3 guns, the continuation form, Form CAFC 910, you will be required to submit your form(s) along with a $25 fee at the border.

If you would like us to purchase your Licences ahead of time, please fill out a WIN Application Form, a WIN Renewal Form, or forward us a Valid WIN Number.  If you are able to purchase your own licences, obtain your Alberta licenses online at https://www.albertarelm.com, and your Federal Licenses at any post office in Canada, or directly from us the morning of your first hunt.

Meeting time and location will be decided upon the evening before your hunt based on the scouting that day.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us by text or email, as we don't answer our phone while guiding.

We accept payment by Credit Card, Interac Email Money Transfer, or Cheque made payable to Massig's Migrators.  American Checks must be made out to Doug Massig.  Credit cards have a 3% processing fee.
